Infill density controls how solid a print's interior is, trading strength against material use and print time. For functional parts, 40–60% with the right pattern and enough perimeter shells usually beats simply cranking density to 100%.
For most desktop FDM printers the practical minimum wall thickness is about 0.8 mm (two perimeters on a 0.4 mm nozzle), while load-bearing parts need 2–3 mm. Nozzle diameter, layer height, material, and print orientation all change what actually works.
